The alleged perpetrator of an Oregon crime spree was arrested in the northeast section of Portland after a frantic last-ditch attempt at escape. The suspect has apparently been the object of a statewide manhunt. Police were alerted to his presence in Portland when police officers discovered an automobile that the suspect had allegedly stolen parked in the drive-through area of a fast food restaurant. The frenzied last chapter of the suspect’s attempt to escape arrest began when officers approached the car.
The chase and arrest
The suspect apparently spotted the officers because he left the car and ran to another restaurant. As police pursued him, the man entered the kitchen of the second restaurant and armed himself with a meat cleaver. An attempt to control the subject with a stun gun failed as the man ran from the restaurant. After leaving the restaurant, the man hijacked a passing car and entered a nearby neighborhood.
The suspect apparently used the meat cleaver to force entry into a home in the neighborhood, where he hid in the attic. Polices surrounded the house and were eventually able to arrest him.
The suspect in this case was taken to the Multnomah County Jail after his arrest. He is facing numerous criminal charges from his prior crime spree and the efforts of officers to arrest him at the drive-through. The charges include two counts of first-degree robbery, first- and second-degree burglary, two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and fourth-degree assault. He is also facing an open warrant for arrest.
